BLAST FROM THE PAST⚡️35 years ago today, AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS debuted on ABC! 📺It’s been three and a half fun-filled decades since audiences first laughed along with this iconic series. The show began on November 26, 1989, as a stand-alone special hosted by the legendary Bob Saget. Created by Vin Di Bona and inspired by the Japanese variety show “Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan,” tt officially launched as a weekly series in January 1990, with Saget hosting for the first eight seasons. The series has awarded over $18 million in prize money and evaluated more than two million video clips submitted by home viewers. The show’s popularity also inspired the spin-off “America’s Funniest People,” which aired from 1990 to 1994. This series was hosted by another “Full House” alum, Dave Coulier, and the late great Arleen Sorkin from 1990 to 1992, with Tawny Kitaen replacing Sorkin in 1992. In the early years, Ernie Anderson was the original voiceover for “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” A legend in the game, he was known as the “voice of ABC” during the 1970s and 1980s, introducing other hit shows like “The Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island.”Today, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” remains a television staple. The longest-running primetime entertainment show in ABC history, it was renewed for its 35th season in early 2024. Currently hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro — best known as Carlton from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” — the show has been thriving under his leadership since 2015, beginning with season 26. Ribeiro took over from Tom Bergeron, adding his own charm and humor to the role. Over its history, “AFV” has also been hosted by John Fugelsang, Daisy Fuentes, D.L. Hughley, and Richard Kind, who appeared in various specials. What a ride it’s been!#AFV #AmericasFunniestHomeVideos #BobSaget #AlfonsoRibeiro #TVAnniversary #ComedyGold #ClassicTV #TVHistory #classictvshows

“CARAVAN OF COURAGE: AN EWOK ADVENTURE” premiered on ABC television back in ‘84. 🐻🧑🦱 While it wasn’t the first Star Wars spin-off (that honor goes to 1978’s “The Star Wars Holiday Special”), “Caravan of Courage” was the franchise’s first standalone movie, bringing the galaxy far, far away into standalone storytelling. Set on the forest moon of Endor, the story follows young siblings Mace and Cindel Towani as they team up with the lovable Ewoks to rescue their kidnapped parents from the monstrous Gorax. Directed by John Korty, the cast for this nostalgic tale includes Eric Walker as Mace Towani, Aubree Miller as Cindel Towani, Fionnula Flanagan as Catarine Towani, and Guy Boyd as Jeremitt Towani, with the Ewoks led by the legendary Warwick Davis reprising his role as Wicket. The Towani family returned in the 1985 sequel, “Ewoks: The Battle for Endor,” which focused on Cindel Towani (Aubree Miller) teaming up with Wicket (Warwick Davis) and new allies after her family’s tragic fate. This sequel expanded the Ewok storyline but marked the final appearance of these characters in the “Star Wars” universe. I loved this one as a kid. So I’m holding out hope that we see Cindel again in some form as the ‘Star Wars’ cinematic universe continues to expand! 🔥#CaravanOfCourage #StarWars #EwokAdventure #StarWarsSpinOff #Ewoks

CHINESE DEMOCRACY hit stores 16 years ago today. It was a day many of us never thought would come! 🎸🤘🔥That’s right! On November 23rd, 2008, Guns N’ Roses finally released “Chinese Democracy,” an album that became legendary for its epic 14-year wait. Featuring lush production, soaring vocals, and Axl Rose’s bold musical vision, it marked the band’s long-awaited return and cemented its place in rock history as one of the most anticipated releases ever. While it wasn’t the GNR that rose to superstardom in the 80s, the album showcased a diverse lineup, including Axl Rose, Buckethead, Robin Finck, Richard Fortus, Tommy Stinson, Bryan “Brain” Mantia, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Frank Ferrer, Dizzy Reed, and Chris Pitman. While the wait was grueling, many fans felt the payoff was worth it. Though it wasn’t the album some die-hards had hoped for, it still delivered plenty of memorable moments. One of the most unforgettable moments from this era was Dr Pepper’s bold promotion in 2008. The iconic soda brand announced it would offer a free can of soda to every American if Guns N’ Roses released their long-awaited album within the year. Surprisingly, the album dropped that November, prompting Dr Pepper to honor their commitment. However, overwhelming demand crashed their website, leading to technical issues and frustration. Guns N’ Roses’ management criticized Dr Pepper for the mishandled promotion, calling it an “unmitigated disaster.” But hey, we got the album, and that’s what counts, right?#GunsNRoses #ChineseDemocracy #OnThisDay #RockHistory #GNROfficial #AxlRose #ClassicRock #LegendaryAlbums #RockLegends #HardRock
