Welcome to another episode of "Dialogue over Division" with Landon Johnston, the driving force behind the hugely successful Recall Gondek petition. When I say "successful," I'm referring to how the Recall Gondek petition has ignited civic engagement in Calgary, something all Canadians should take note of. Regardless of whether the petition achieves its goal, citizens of Calgary are sending a message to elected officials and are actively participating in democracy.For those who may not be familiar, Jyoti Gondek is the mayor of Calgary. With her approval rating at an all-time low and her advocacy for controversial policies affecting Calgarians, Landon recognized the widespread disapproval and felt compelled to take action.It's worth noting that Landon is a tradesman—an ordinary, good-hearted, and honest individual who saw an issue and decided to act. Motivated by his concern for justice and fairness, he launched the Recall Gondek petition, which quickly gained momentum. However, Landon and his team have faced numerous hurdles and endured many attacks along the way, from navigating administrative hurdles to responding to vandalized signs. But nothing stopped them.At a time when civic engagement is more crucial than ever, initiatives like the Recall Gondek petition highlight the importance of ordinary citizens actively participating in the democratic process. It demonstrates how individuals like Landon can effect change and hold elected officials accountable. It is worth noting that Mayor Gondek has already accounted that she will not be seeking re-election, this is not a coincidence.In my view, to ensure our democracy remains robust, we should actively encourage civic engagement. A Post Transaction Valuation Check (PTVC) can be requested from HMRC for an individual to work out a capital gains tax liability or for companies to calculate corporation tax liability on chargeable gains. The request for a PTVC should be made using the CG34 form. Here is an eye roll of a protest. Keep this on file for proper teaming.For crying out loud, if your firm decides to protest, you need to hire a law firm. If a law firm or two declines your generous offer, heed it! You are not more knowledgeable about protesting than protest attorneys.This protester feels that their significantly lower price should make up for a significantly lower technical rating. The US Navy did not feel the same way and actually felt that the higher priced bid by O2X Human Performance would be a cost saver due to better service, better management and better experience. GAO agrees.The protester felt that their sub would carry the day. It is true that the sub had some experience and some relevant past performance, but not enough to win the day. Had the protester conducted a step review and concentrated on teaming, they would have (or should have) no bid this deal 2-4 weeks before the RFP came out and then moved on to opportunities with a better chance to win. The sub that they had would have been an excellent #2 or #3 sub, but not the primary sub.What is the saying about representing yourself?
