The seven churches of Revelation described in Revelation chapters 2 through chapter 3 are seven literal churches at the time that John the apostle was writing Revelation. Though they were literal churches in that time, there is also spiritual significance for churches and believers today.
The first purpose of the letters was to communicate with the literal churches and meet their needs at that time. The second purpose is to reveal seven different types of individuals/churches throughout history and instruct them in God’s truth.
The problem with this view is that each of the seven churches describes issues that could fit the Church in any time in its history. Our focus should be on what message God is giving us through the seven churches.
The Seven Churches of Revelation are …
(1) Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) – the church that had forsaken its first love (2:4).
(2) Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) – the church that would suffer persecution (2:10).
(3) Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) – the church that needed to repent (2:16).
(4) Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) – the church that had a false prophetess (2:20).
(5) Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) – the church that had fallen asleep (3:2).
(6) Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) – the church that had endured patiently (3:10).
(7) Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) – the church with the lukewarm faith (3:16).

Dear Ishe,
While reading your comments and explanations, I noticed you and others on this Website use a lot of exclamation marks, “!” And, I am wondering just why.
Is it necessary to use your feelings indicated by the exclamation marks to add validity to what you say? Or, maybe doing do is just how you express your joy and personality?
Remember, the use of personal feelings and sincerity does not indicate accuracy upon Scripture, or thst the Truth of God is being spoken. Personality is not going to validate God’s Word in any manner.

Greetings Dr. Matt; thank you for being here and commenting. Also, thank you for pointing that out. I believe we do write and use exclamation marks for emphasis and out of habit. If the scripture raised my eyebrow, I habitually place an exclamation mark for others.
Personality does not validate GOD’s Word. Thou shalt not kill is literally the same as THOU SHALT NOT KILL!!!!! Personality is useful in many instances, I’m sure you’d agree.
Sometimes watch out, is not the same as WATCH OUT!! Or watch and pray, is not the same as WATCH AND PRAY … I totally understand and agree with your comment! I more than likely edit and write articles with exclamation marks out of the habit of what perked my ears up. I’ll keep more awareness of it going forward.
